Brave New World Bibliography

Belluzzo, Rick. "How Technology Shapes Our World." Microsoft.com. Microsoft, 4 Feb. 2002. Web. 27 Sept. 2010. .

This article talks about the changes technology has made to our society, and steps we need to take to make sure things keep moving forward. This source is useful in showing how we are taking moves in technology as a society. This source is reliable, because it comes from a large trusted company like Microsoft. My argument is being shaped by this article in that I can show how we are already making big changes to our society to accommodate technological growth and changes.

"Churches: The Morality of Marijuana - TIME." Time Magazine. 16 Aug. 1968. Web. 11 Oct. 2010.
This article hits some great points about the Morality of Marijuana based on the views of the Catholic and other churches. It talks about weather or not, aside from its legality, or lack thereof, smoking marijuana is a sin. In relation to Brave New World, where they take Soma, this article shows one of the major arguments their could be against doing a drug. However, even though this argument is debating weather or not using is wrong, the argument would not even be brought up if there wasn't some religion within our world that has an interpreted denotation of using drugs to be wrong. Therefore this article helps in understanding a possible reason why the author chose to create world without Christianity.

"FDA Approves SOMA(R) (carisoprodol) 250 Mg." Medical News Today: Health News. 18 Sept. 2007. Web. 13 Oct. 2010.

This article talks about how the FDA actually approved a drug called Soma, sharing the name with the drug in "Brave New World." This drug is also a muscle relaxant. However, according to the article, it is only to be used for a couple of weeks, when the users in this book used this drug for their whole life. This article talking about an actual drug called Soma brings up questions of weather or not it actually is possible that a drug similar to the one in "Brave New Word" could actually be real. It helps me move forward in my research by stating that there are similar drugs out there that do some of the same things as the Soma in Huxley's work.

Martin, Andrew, and Andrew Pollack. "F.D.A. Says Food From Cloned Animals Is Safe." The New York Times. 16 Jan. 2008. Web. 13 Oct. 2010.
This article, talking about the issue of cloning animals, and weather or not their meat is safe to eat is directly related "Brave New World." In this article, the authors talk about how the F.D.A. has now approved the use of cloned animal meat and products like milk etc... for human consumption. This step in the scientific process brings us ever closer to more advances in science. Cloning is directly related to Brave New World, however we are miles away from cloning humans. However, is that really where we want our society to go?

It references to many new things that will come around soon like customization of eye color and talents of their baby.
